As the summer rolls closer to the first day of school, football players across the state are conditioning and honing their skills for the upcoming season. Wyatt Fitzgerald of Oklahoma Christian School is no different.

This season Fitzgerald is making a transition from wide receiver to quarterback.
“The transition has been good; I have been playing the QB position since I was about five years old, so I feel comfortable at the position. I have been the backup QB here at OCS and now I feel like it’s my turn. I am ready to go compete and be the leader for my team,” said Fitzgerald.

Taking over the QB spot could mean his time on defense will be limited this season.
“Right now, I am not set on playing much defense. I might play some in certain situations, but I will practice it and be ready to play it,” said Fitzgerald.

The new position has meant a larger leadership role on the team, which is something Fitzgerald is comfortable with.
“As the QB I have to be a good leader for the team, I want to be a good role model for my teammates not getting too high with the highs or too low with the lows. Stay levelheaded and play our game,” said Fitzgerald.

Playing at OCS has given Fitzgerald and his teammates to be part of a larger community to teammates, families, and fans.
“At OCS it feels like a family, the entire community comes to the games on Friday nights, the support is special, and you can feel it,” said Fitzgerald. “What I love most about my OCS teammates is that they hold me accountable, and they are honest to me. We all push each other to be better and it’s fun when we form relationships together to play football as a team.”

Also a tremendous baseball player, Fitzgerald said his dream scenario would include playing both sports in college.
“I have had a few schools reach out, some of the juco colleges around Oklahoma. My ultimate dream scenario would be to play football and baseball in college,” said Fitzgerald.

The goal this season is simple, compete and go for the gold ball.
“The ultimate goal is to go compete and try to win a state championship, but there are some other goals that I want to achieve. I want to our team to show how we glorify God, and to anyone who watches us they see that and are influenced by that.”
