9 Questions with Westmoore’s Connor Garcia – Presented by Eskridge Honda

VYPE: What grade are you currently in and how long have you been in cross country?

Connor Garcia: I am currently in 10th grade, and I got started in cross country in the 7th grade.

VYPE: What is your best time and where did you run it?

CG: My best time for the 800 is 2:10 and I ran it at the Westmoore track. My mile pr is 4:51 and I ran it at Deer Creek. My 2-mile time is 10:30 and I ran it at Deer Creek also. Finally, my 5K pr is 17:27 and I ran it at the Moore war.

VYPE: Do you hear the crowd during a race?

CG: Yes, I definitely hear the crowd. When I hear them, it just makes me want to run faster.

VYPE: Where do you like to run if it’s for fun or practice?

CG: I like running on the Westmoore track the most. But if I am training alone, I will go to the Earlywine Loop.

VYPE: Is the starting position at the beginning of a race strategic? Explain.

CG: Yes, there is definitely a strategy to where you are on the line at the beginning of a race. You must place yourself well or you will not get boxed in and it will waste time.

VYPE: What makes being a student athlete at Westmoore special to you?

CG: The thing that makes me feel special the most is my teammates.

VYPE: Who has been a big influence in your life and why?

CG: My parents definitely were a big influence but the person that makes me want to run is my friend and teammate James. We strive to beat each other, and we make each other faster.

VYPE: What are your plans after graduation?

CG: I haven’t thought of what I wanted to do after graduation too much, but I am thinking about going to OU and going into the medical field.

VYPE: What is your favorite school subject and who is your favorite teacher?

CG: My favorite subject is math and my favorite teacher this year is my Chemistry teacher Mrs. Simmons.
