Elijah Williams credits his dad for sparking his love for baseball. “My dad is definitely the biggest inspiration for baseball,” Elijah shares. “I love the game because of him, and I’ve learned everything from him. Without him, I wouldn’t be where I am today!”
As a left-handed pitcher and centerfielder at Community Christian School in Norman, Elijah plays a pivotal role on the team, both as an athlete and a leader. “My biggest role on our team is being a leader and setting a good example for my teammates,” he says. Elijah believes leadership is about showing his teammates he cares about them and their success. “I train and push myself daily, and mentally I remind myself that there’s always gonna be someone out there better than me, so I have to work my hardest day in and day out.”
Elijah describes the chemistry of his team as a brotherhood. “Our team is definitely one of the closest teams out there. We hang out on and off the field, and everyone has each other’s back. It’s always a great time when we get together, and it makes it easier to step on the mound when you have your best friends behind you.”
Elijah and his team have set their sights high this season. “My goal, and our team goal, is to win a state championship! We made it to state last year for the first time in school history, which was great, but anything less than a championship this year will be a disappointment,” he says.
Elijah recalls one of his proudest moments on the field: “A big highlight for me was beating Heritage Hall on the mound as a sophomore at home in front of one of our biggest crowds ever. That was a huge team goal, and accomplishing that was pretty special because they have a very good baseball program.”
When asked about the challenges he’s faced, Elijah says, “I was always told I was too small or not big enough to play D1 baseball, let alone in the SEC. It ate me up for years, but now I use it as fuel and motivation to get better every day.”
Elijah’s plans after high school include playing D1 baseball in the SEC and pursuing a career in law. “By the grace of God, I see myself playing baseball or preparing to become a lawyer. I want to thank my parents, coaches, and teammates for always supporting me.”
