OUTLOOK.
Jones’ girls team has established itself among 3A basketball royalty in recent years, appearing in last year’s state quarterfinal and winning three-peat titles in 2023, ‘22 and ‘21. This year’s team could bring the Gold Ball back home. “We have a strong core returning with seniors Karma Lewis and Karizma Johnson. They will be adding a move-in senior, Lydia Hall, to their class. Our three seniors will have a huge impact on our team,” head coach Carson Matthews said. “Junior Kitelyn Higgins and Jentry Holbrook look to have a great year as they step into upperclassman roles. We have some young faces looking to get impactful minutes. Going to play fast and up-tempo and play hard-nose defense.” Johnson, Matthews said, is a natural leader. “Karizma is extremely talented at everything she does,” Matthews said. “She is always encouraging those around her! She works extremely hard in the weight room and wants to perfect her craft. Whoever lands her will get a great athlete but even better kid.” Hall, who spent her junior year at Edmond Santa Fe, is a gym rat. “She’s constantly looking to improve her game. She comes in every morning to get shots up and stays late after practice. She is extremely athletic and greatly contributes to our team success!” Katrina Johnson (So.) is one of several underclassmen expecting to have a breakout year. Another, Peyton Higgins (Fr.) will make her varsity debut. “She [Higgins] is super long and has really got her shot around the rim looking good,” Matthews said. “She will grow into a star!” Jentry Holbrook (Jr.) is a crucial force on the team. “She [Holbrook] knows what it means to always do the right thing,” Matthews said. “She works hard, does what is asked of her and is always seeking correction. Kaylee Long (Fr.) is “constantly seeking perfection,” Matthews said. “She loves basketball, and you can tell by how hard she works!”
