OUTLOOK

The Chargers may have a new look this season after going 9-12 a year ago. The team is hungry, and the players are willing to grind things out and outwork their opponents. Head coach Dylan Sullivan said the players are developing nicely and the bench is deep.

“Our team loses its leading scorer and another contributing guard but returns several other pieces from last year’s team. We will still be young, but that youth with some game experience from last year. We will be led by a hard-working senior class, including Roman Welch, Carter Knowles, and Barrett Travis. We will have several other contributors, as we look to play a deep bench and use that to our advantage against our opponents. We hope to see massive strides as the season progresses toward the postseason and our young players continue to develop,” said coach Sullivan.

VYPE Top 100 selectee TJ Williams (So.) averaged 15 points a game and returns as the second leading scorer for the Chargers.

“He has the body and is becoming more physically dominant as he learns to use his size. TJ is a true three-level scorer, a fantastic rebounder, and can affect shots from all parts of the court. Not only will he likely be our leading scorer this year, he will likely be one of our best defenders,” said Sullivan.

One of the more athletic players on the roster is Xzavier Mbroh (So.) who brings a high basketball IQ and elite abilities in the transition game.

“Players like returning starter Rhett Davis (Jr.), along with returning sixth-man Xzavier Mbroh, look to pick up some of the scoring slack left by our graduated seniors,” said Sullivan.

Porter Gillispie will likely play point guard giving the Chargers a shooter and decision maker in the backcourt. Roman Welch is called the heart and soul of the team.

“Roman is the hustle guy and the glue for everything we do. If we need a stop, he steps up to get it. If we need a defensive rotation, he makes it his job. Offensively, he is always making the right play,” said Sullivan.
