Southmoore’s Sabrina Hernandez – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Christian Brothers Automotive

Southmoore High School sophomore Sabrina Hernandez is looking forward to competing this season after posting 9.2 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game as a freshman. Hernandez said being on the court in her first year of varsity basketball was a big accomplishment.

“My most proud accomplishment was starting as a freshman,” said Hernandez.

Being a team player and learning from the upperclassmen is something Hernandez locked on to early as a freshman. The sophomore said several teammates impress her, but one stands out.

“Kenzi Shipman a senior left a very big impression on me because we played very similarly and have been through the same things during our basketball career, she made me realize that even when it is tough, I can get through it,” said Hernandez.

Hernandez said the best advice she has received helps her get through those tough times.

“When you are going through a tough time it is not permanent, if you are in a slump in shooting it is not permanent, nothing is permanent unless you make it permanent,” said Hernandez.

In the classroom, Hernandez said her favorite teacher is Mrs. Hunter because she is very understanding. The sophomore added a special thanks to the people who mean the most to her on and off the court.

“Shout out to my parents, coaches, and teammates for making me who I am today,” said Hernandez.
