El Reno’s Emmary Elizondo – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Jim Eischen, Shelter Insurance

El Reno’s Emmary Elizondo

El Reno High School’s Emmary Elizondo is a senior this year and a member of the varsity basketball team. Elizondo is a shooting guard for head coach Jennifer Douglas. Coach Douglas said Elizondo is known for being a hard worker.

“She never lets up in practice or in a game. She averaged the most minutes of all players returning this year. She is expected to guard other team’s best players and give us 10 points a game. She can play and guard positions 1-4. Sacrifices for her team. Just wants to win at all costs,” said coach Douglas.

Win is exactly what they did at El Reno last year, bringing home a state title. Elizondo said winning a state title was something she will never forget.

“My favorite memories were getting to play with the 2024 seniors and going on to win the very first State Championship for our school,” said Elizondo.

This season Elizondo continues to help her team win.

“I would say the strength of my game would be my defense, being versatile in doing would I need to do for our team. This season I have worked on being more consistent on the 3-point line and being more of a vocal leader on the court,” said Elizondo.

Elizondo said she was influenced by a former teammate who made an impression on her.

“I would say a previous teammate that left an impression on me for sure, was Nazhoni Sleeper, who was our point guard last year. Watching her dedication to the game still inspires me to work hard no matter what.”

Elizondo is quick to point out that several teammates have made big leaps this season.

The things I love are our coaches for putting up with us, and the way we can represent our culture as a team,” Elizondo said. “I would say KK Reed is one of the funniest on the team, and the most serious would be Eryn RomanNose.”

As for next fall and what Elizondo plans for her future?

“The goal after high school is to further my education and basketball career, while studying Radiology.”
