In his senior season, Christian Heritage varsity soccer player JD Smith has a lot to be thankful for. The senior started playing soccer at the age of four and has loved the game since that first season on the pitch.
“I love the school I represent because everyone is super kind and caring for you but also diligent in the work they put in on and off the field while exemplifying Christ in all they do,” said Smith.
This is a big year for the senior and one he knew he wanted to savor.
“I am looking forward to playing my final year with my friends at CHA and hopefully making it pretty far into playoffs,” Smith said. “The accomplishment I’m most proud of soccer wise is winning all district three years in a row.”
Coming into the season, Smith said he wanted to improve in certain areas, and it appears he has accomplished that goal.
“My strength in general terms is my ability to play defense and to prepare for the school season I’ve been working on speed and agility,” Smith said. “Before games I mentally prepare myself by putting myself in certain situations in my head and working them out before I even touch the field.”
Smith said his teammates continue to impress him and an old coach inspires him.
“A teammate I have been impressed with so far this season is Leighton Wells and his ability to distribute the ball to mere perfection,” Smith said. “I love that my teammates are both super friendly yet understand when it’s time to lock in and focus on the game. Someone who inspires me off the field is my old coach, coach Jared Origi who taught me how to play defense and how to play soccer in general.”
Smith is making plans for his future which includes attending college in the fall.
“My goal after high school is to attend college and then later start a family that loves and glorifies Christ,” said Smith.
