Athlete Spotlight with Putnam City’s Riley Coburn – Presented by Andrew Ruiz-Shelter Insurance

Putnam City High School senior Riley Coburn started cheering at the age of 10. Now in her last year of high school, Coburn is looking forward to the next phase of life.

“My goal for life is to be happy, if I could cheer in college that would be amazing but if I can’t I’ll find other things to occupy my time,” said Coburn.

This season Coburn said the team performed great and she will carry those memories with her for life.

“This season was one of our best! We received 3rd place at a game day cheer competition. Me and my team have so many amazing memories it’s hard to choose one, but I’d probably say all of the excitement when we hit a new stunt or make no mistakes on a routine,” said Coburn.

A four-year varsity cheerleader, Coburn said she has served as the class president for the past three years and she is in choir and theater.

Finding inspiration is easy for Coburn. She doesn’t need to look too far.

“The people who inspire me most are my mom, dad and my boyfriend Lac. They would always do their best to be at all of my events and they all show me such support and I am so thankful for them,” said Coburn.

Coburn said this season she has been impressed with her teammates.

“I have been very impressed with my teammate Khiana Gully. She is usually very quiet but once she showed her true colors, you just can’t stop laughing. Her reactions at football and basketball games convince me she should be playing too. There is a special cheerleader that had a lasting impression on me, her name is Madison Lankford! She graduated 2022 and she was an amazing leader, anytime there’s a conflict I think about her and what she may do. She always inspires me to do my best and remembering her helps me be a better cheerleader,” said Coburn.
