Jacob Ojeda, a dynamic presence on the basketball court at Bridge Creek High School, shares his insights into the game, the influences that have shaped him, and his aspirations for the future in this spotlight.
When asked about his favorite coach, Jacob points to Coach Korstjens, highlighting the impact of relentless energy: “No matter what time we’re practicing or how long we’re practicing, he is always picking up his players and bringing the energy when nobody else is.”
Reflecting on his freshmen year, Jacob recalls the unwavering support from his injured brother on the bench: “I had my brother who was out due to injury on the bench always pushing me to be better and always make the right decisions.” The brotherly encouragement, even in the face of adversity, has been a driving force in Jacob’s journey.
Beyond the court, Jacob recognizes Coach White as his favorite teacher, emphasizing the broader life lessons imparted: “He’s not only teaching me how to be a better student and learn easier, but he teaches me how to be a better person in life.”
In preparation for the upcoming season, Jacob has focused on personal growth: “I have been working on putting myself in positions I’m not familiar with yet. Getting out of my comfort zone but still making the right play.”
Basketball has taught Jacob valuable life lessons, emphasizing a philosophy of personal development: “Never try to be better than someone else. Learn from others and try to be the best you can be. Success is the by-product of that preparation.”
Among his cherished memories, Jacob highlights finishing seasons with record-breaking success: “Finishing seasons with the best records my school has seen in a while.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Jacob sets ambitious goals: “Make it to the state tournament.” The aspiration reflects both individual and team objectives, showcasing a commitment to excellence on the court.
Excitement builds as Jacob looks forward to facing top-tier opponents: “Weatherford and Douglas because those are the top teams in our class.”
Beyond high school, Jacob has clear plans for the future: “After high school, I plan to go to college and play basketball.” The aspiration to continue his basketball journey at the collegiate level aligns with Jacob’s passion for the game.
