PUTNAM CITY NORTH PANTHERS
Coach: BRIAN LOCKART
9-4
OFFENSE
Head coach Brian Lockart enters his eighth season at the helm and is excited about the work his squad has put into the weight room during the offseason and believes that work will translate into success this season. “I feel we are positioned well to make some noise again this season,” added coach Lockart. The Panthers offense returns six starters. Offensive coordinator Stephen Day mixes the personnel packages which leads to confusion for opposing defenses while maintaining a good run-pass balance. Quarterback Mason Jones (5-11, 200, Sr.) returns after passing for nearly 1,300 yards and 11 touchdowns. Jones will have two solid targets in Bravion Stubbs (6-0, 180, Sr.) and Marshall Bennett (6-3, 185, Sr.). Stubbs averaged 14 yards per reception as a junior last season. Coach Lockart believes in the upside of Bennett and believes he should be getting more college looks with his size and speed in addition to his high character, work ethic, and leadership that he brings to the program. Isaiah Southern (6-3, 190, Sr.) is another receiving option for Jones who possesses great height against high school defenders. Upfront, the Panthers will rely on the senior leadership of Caari Coleman (6-2, 280).
DEFENSE
The Panthers will have a new defensive coordinator in Justin Stevenson who drew rave reviews from the head coach for his ability to connect with the players while bringing organization and attention to detail to this side of the ball. The 3-4 defense of Putnam City North will be attacking with a desire to consistently pressure the quarterback. Gavan Krone (6-5, 200, Jr.) will be a key part of that attacking, pressure play as he looks to give opposing offensive tackles issues off the edge. Krone is hard to block with his quickness and nose for the ball. He has relied upon his athleticism as a sophomore but will continue to only develop and grow as the season progresses. The Panthers’ coaching staff preaches creating turnovers daily and strong safety JT Hutchinson (6-0, 180, Sr.) is the ringleader in the secondary causing havoc. Mitchell Taylor (5-11, 175, Sr.) along with Stubbs are playmakers in the secondary. Stubbs is a three-year starter both at wide receiver and defensive back and was described as the “catalyst of our team no doubt” by his head coach. The second layer of the defense is led by Bishop Moore (6-0, 195, Sr.) and Jarrett Rogers (5-10, 205, Sr.) at the linebacker position. Moore and Rogers both are important in helping the defense get off the field on third downs. Dominic Spotwood (6-0, 185, So.) is an underclassman to watch after playing a critical role on varsity as a freshman in 2024. Spotwood placed at state in power lifting and made huge strides in the offseason weight room. The coaching staff is excited about his upside and his willingness to work to develop towards what could be a special career both at linebacker and on the offensive side of the ball.
