Beau Hickman
Tuttle High School
When you wrestle for one of the more storied programs in Oklahoma, competing in the state tournament is always the expectation, but winning or placing is the goal. One wrestler looking for his third state title this season is Beau Hickman.
Hickman has a 132-pound and a 138-pound state title to his credit. Now he moves up in weight again to add his name to the list of three-timers in Oklahoma.
“I have been in the sport of wrestling since I was four years old. So, I have been wrestling for about 13 years. Last season I wrestled at 138 this season I moved up a weight and am wrestling at 144,” said Hickman.
The list of state placers grows every year. The list of two-timers is shorter, and the list of three-timers is even smaller. Adding his name to that list drives Hickman to push himself to be the best. Hickman would become the 11th three-timer at Tuttle. The school also has four, four-timers.
“To be able to win a third state title it is going to take me being consistent in my training and working on the little things. I have to work on getting the small things down in order to succeed,” said Hickman.
Not usually known as a team sport, at Tuttle High School, wrestling and winning state titles as a team is the expectation as well. Hickman said the team is young, but hard-working and preparing for the long season.
“Our team this year has many young guys on it. We are overall a good team and just need to all keep working on getting better to get another team tittle at the end of the year,” said Hickman. “The thing I enjoy most about wrestling is how dedicated you must be; like being consistent on practice and how hard you must work during them. And getting extra work in and keeping a clean diet to stay dedicated in the sport.”
Hickman is headed to Oklahoma State University to wrestle for the Cowboys, but he will always be a Tuttle wrestler.
“To me being a Tuttle wrestler feels like a good responsibility. Wearing Tuttle people expect the most out of you so it’s good to be able to lead by example,” said Hickman.
