Piedmont’s Rosie West
Spend any time around the Piedmont High School volleyball program and you’re likely to see or meet Rosie West. Rosie, mother to Bailey West, helps organize all the team meals, is involved in fundraising and special events for the team like Pink Out Night and Senior Night to name a few.
Piedmont Public Schools and the varsity volleyball program have been great for the West family. Rosie said with Bailey being a senior, this is her last year with PHS.
“Bailey is my only child, so this is my last year with Piedmont Schools. It is an amazing school district, and I was thankful to be part of it,” Rosie said. “Piedmont is a tight knit community, which is the same for the schools. It is made up of really good teachers, coaches and mentors that have made a big impact on Bailey and myself.”
The volleyball family has made an impact as well, and like most programs, it takes more than one person to accomplish everything behind the scenes.
“The friendships are what I have enjoyed most about the volleyball team. Bailey and I have made friendships through volleyball that we will have for a long time,” Rosie said. “Jeannie Roberts, Erin Owens, Samantha Vu, Erin Jewell, Jamie Hall, and Sara Watkins have been some moms that have helped with organizing events and tournament meals for our teams. I could not do it without their help!”
Rosie said its important parents get involved in their kid’s activities.
“It’s important to be there and provide support to your kids in all they do. I know I will always support Bailey, but as she gets older, she will not need me in the same way, which is the goal of course. So, this is my time and other parents time to have more of an impact on our kids,” said Rosie.
Bailey has played school and club volleyball since the age of 11, so Rosie will be looking for a new hobby after this school year.
“Volleyball has been our lives, so I will now have lots of time on my hands to find new hobbies and adventures.”
