Blanchard’s Kylann Dobbs – Volleyball Spotlight – Presented by Dobbs Welding & Fabrication

Blanchard’s Kylann Dobbs

You may know Kylann Dobbs for her spectacular talent on the Blanchard High School basketball court, but her talent in another hardwood sport rivals even that of her hoops mastery.

“Volleyball helps me stay in shape for basketball,” said Dobbs, a senior. “There really aren’t that many similarities, but both sports are physically demanding.”

Dobbs recognizes the massive impact sports have on youth athletes. To her, the wins and accomplishments matter, but the life lessons are indispensable.

“I think sports prepare us for the future and learning how to work for a boss and get along with all types of personalities,” Dobbs said.

The element her personality brings to the team is a lighthearted energy. But it’s taken a lot of work.

“When times get tough, my teammates can count on me to make a joke about it,” Dobbs said. “One of my biggest struggles throughout my volleyball career has been keeping the correct mindset through adversity. To overcome these struggles, I’ve had to remind myself before each game and practice that it’s a new day and new opportunity to be successful for myself and my team.”

Maintaining that mindset was especially difficult her sophomore year, when Dobbs suffered a back injury.

“I’ve had to learn my body and make sure I take preventative measures and proper stretches in order to stay healthy and be at my best,” Dobbs said.

As Dobbs rounds the corner on her senior volleyball season and looks to her last rodeo for the Lions basketball team, she expects her team to “turn up the heat, finish strong and make a run in the playoffs. My goals for basketball season are to work hard and exceed last season’s accomplishments,” Dobbs said.

Dobbs, also a member of national honor society, plans to pursue a degree in physical therapy after high school.

“My long-term goals are to be happy and successful in life and career,” Dobbs said.
