Heritage Hall’s Sloane Travis – Cheer Spotlight

Heritage Hall’s Sloane Travis

Heritage Hall senior cheerleader Sloane Travis has spent much of her life on the Chargers’ sideline, but her impact stretches far beyond sharp motions and game-day smiles. As a captain and main base on the cheer squad, she has become a steady presence teammates rely on for leadership, encouragement and example.

Travis, a 12th-grader, said the foundation for her work ethic started at home with her dad. “My dad inspires me for his hard work and everything he does for our family,” Travis said. That model of quiet consistency shows up in the way she approaches long practices, tough routines and the daily demands of school and athletics.

In the classroom, Travis gravitates toward problem-solving. Her favorite subject is math, and she points to Jenny Ferguson as the teacher who has made the biggest impact on her academic journey. Balancing AP-style coursework, leadership responsibilities and year-round training requires organization and resilience, qualities Travis said cheer has helped refine. Athletics, she believes, has prepared her for the next chapter beyond high school.

“Sports have definitely taught me grit,” Travis said. “Leadership and effort goes a long way in life.” Those lessons are evident in the way she leads from the main base position, a role that demands trust, strength and precise timing on every stunt. As captain, she is responsible for setting the tone at practice, helping teammates correct skills and making sure the squad stays locked in through football and basketball seasons.

Ask Travis what she loves most about Heritage Hall cheer, though, and she doesn’t start with trophies or sidelines. She starts with the people closest to her. “I love the overall team bond and being on the team with my sister, cousins, and some of my best friends,” she said. That built-in family feel has turned long summer workouts and late games into some of her favorite memories.

Those summer months are no break. “We practice all summer long,” Travis said. She also takes tumbling lessons to keep her skills sharp, working on difficulty and consistency so she can perform under Friday night lights. The extra hours allow her to push her own ceiling while helping raise the level of the entire squad.

Away from the mat, Travis finds balance in quieter pursuits. She loves to bake and go on runs in her free time, trading the noise of a packed stadium for a peaceful kitchen or a trail. The contrast gives her a chance to reset while still leaning into routines that require focus, patience and discipline.

Travis is quick to recognize the people who helped shape her as an athlete and leader. She points to former teammate Yohanna Bell as someone who left a lasting impression. “My former teammate Yohanna Bell was a great role model for me, always being so encouraging and just a super talented athlete I look up to,” Travis said. As she finishes her senior year, Travis now works to be that same kind of role model for younger Chargers watching her every move.
