VYPE: Tell me about your sport and your favorite part about the position you play.
Kalani Kindred: I play basketball, and I play the power forward. My favorite part of my position is that we can play anywhere and have multiple spots.
VYPE: What has basketball taught you that you can use in your daily life?
KK: Even when you fall, you have to get right back up and keep trying.
VYPE: What makes you passionate about basketball?
KK: My passion comes from me being around basketball all my life and I have grown to love it. That’s why I continue to work hard.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
KK: My mom inspires me cause of how strong she is. Even when times get hard, she is always there smiling and helping anyone she can.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
KK: My teammate Whitney. When I get down on myself she is always there telling me that it will be okay and to just keep going.
VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing basketball?
KK: I first started playing in fifth grade, but I have always been around the sport. All my brothers and sisters played, and my dad has been a coach my whole life so it’s always been there.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing Newcastle High School as an athlete?
KK: Being able to show that we have great athletes here too, even if it’s a small school.
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
KK: My best advice is something my dad always tells me. Greatness is inside me. I just have to show it.
VYPE: Do you have any special interests you would like to share about yourself?
KK: I love listening to music. It helps me lock in or relax.
