In a very short time, head coach Colby Robinson has turned a non-existent program into one that is growing and sending wrestlers to the state tournament. Coach Robinson said the program ready to take another step forward.
“We are in our sixth year of the program. We have five seniors that have come all the way through our program. We have two returning State Qualifiers. We have a growing team and multiple kids have wrestled through the summer. We are excited about the season and look forward for the best year yet,” said coach Robinson.
Jace Lillie (Sr.) was a state qualifier last season and has spent his summer preparing for the upcoming season. Coach Robinson called Lillie, “one of the most dedicated kids on the team.” Lillie is a senior leader, not only by words but by his actions. Rhett Nelson (Jr.) is the second state qualifier coach Robinson mentioned. Nelson is a consistent hard worker and someone to watch this season. Coach Robinson said Nelson has a huge upside and has trained all year for the opportunity to be a starter this season.
Gwen Mullin (Sr.) battled through some injuries the last two seasons. With improvements in the weight room and continued progress on the mat, Mullin could have a breakout season. Also look for Jacob Schmidt (Sr.), another senior who leads by example and will be a big part of helping the younger wrestlers mature at the varsity level.
Rounding out the seniors are Dax Lopez, and Henry Soper. The junior class features Hank Green, Henry Fields, and Garrett Quillin. The sophomores are Garrett Monter and Luke Adcock. A handful of freshmen are on the roster this season. They include Pierson McIntire, Luke Nelson, Greyson Hammon, and Braden Lillie.
The season started with trips to the Colton Schneider Memorial Tournament in Edmond before headed to the Blackwell Tournament. The Saints will wrestle in one of the best tournaments in the state at Perry’s Tournament of Champions. Duals will Cleveland, Bishop McGuinness, Cashion, Pawnee/Pawhuska, and Casady/Crossings Christian are all slated for January. Before dual state, the Saints will attend the Ardmore Tournament in February.
