2024 Coyle’s Landon Dobbs – Presented by Stand for the Silent

After going 8-4 last year, Coyle football has its sights set on another playoff run. Senior Landon Dobbs will be an instrumental piece to this year’s team.

Dobbs is head coach Marcus Dobbs’ best utility weapon. He can play guard, fullback, defensive tackle or defensive end. His football journey began at 6 years old. Since then, he and the sport have been inseparable.

“I love that it’s a contact sport where people can go out on a field and just hit each other for the game of it,” Dobbs said. “And the adrenaline rush when you get on that field is just a different feeling every single time.”

Since his Friday night lights career began, Dobbs has endured some minor setbacks — bumps, bruises, concussions and, bizarrely, complications for a spider bite that sat him out for some time.

“Freshman year, I did miss almost the entire season except two games due to an unfortunate spider bite to a brown recluse,” Dobbs said. “[It] set back most of the season but came back working harder than before.”

It’s something he can have a good laugh about now. His dedication is apparent to his coaches and community.

“When it comes to putting work in or helping the team, I’m on top of it, no matter what,” Dobbs said.

Being a leader will be a hefty task for Dobbs, one of only three returning starters. Being a leader means “being able to work with your team like brothers but keeping function and order to maintain a good and solid team,” Dobbs said.

“We make sure to have fun in every little bit we can and hang out outside of school 24/7,” Dobbs said.

Among his goals for this season are making an All-Star game and leading the Bluejackets to a successful year. Asked what it would take to achieve those goals, Dobbs said in jest, “a whole lot of running.”

After high school, Dobbs plans to pursue education in computer engineering or network security. He thanks his parents for supporting his athletic and academic endeavors.
