Deer Creek’s Landry Key
By Ivy Knapp
Senior volleyball player Landry Key has made her mark on and off the court at Deer Creek High School. Though this is only her second year playing for Deer Creek, Landry has quickly become a vital part of the volleyball team.
For Landry, being a student-athlete at Deer Creek has a lot of meaning.
“It’s special because of the incredible support system from our coaches and teammates,” she said. “It feels like being part of a family that pushes me to be my best on and off the court.”
That sense of family has helped her grow as a player and a person during her time with the volleyball program.
Her biggest influence is close to her heart. Landry credits her mom as her role model.
“She’s my best friend and someone I look up to in so many ways, from her work ethic to her kindness,” she said. “She inspires me to be the best version of myself every day.”
On the court, Landry plays as an outside hitter, a role she loves because it allows her to be a part of both offense and defense. She excels under pressure, especially when going up against strong opponents like Edmond Memorial, the matchup she looks forward to most this season. When it comes to serving, Landry prefers the jump serve for the power it gives her.
Landry is quick to highlight her teammates, pointing out Brinkley and Gabby as players who never hesitate to dive for a dig. She compliments her setters Tinsley and Raelyn, both freshmen, who she says have done an outstanding job at the high school level.
After graduation, Landry plans to attend Oklahoma State University and pursue a degree in nursing. In the classroom, with her teammates, and on the court, Landry’s drive and dedication stand out as a leader and teammate.
