Edmond North Softball Team Spotlight – Presented by Bob Howard Chevrolet

Before the season started, the talk was about the pitching Edmond North was returning to the lineup. Head coach Rick Nordyke told VYPE Magazine prior to the season starting that the team was young but returned all of the pitching from the previous year.

The Lady Huskies have played some great games this season defeating teams like Midwest City, Putnam City, Edmond Memorial, and Muskogee. A tough schedule has tested the pitchers, but coach Nordyke believes the team continues to improve.

“We have played some tough teams close, and we are getting stronger,” said Nordyke.

Offensively the Lady Huskies have shown the ability to produce runs and continue to work the base pads and manufacture runs.

“We are hitting more extra base hits. We scored 13 runs at Jenks and hopefully getting our confidence going,” said Nordyke.

Several players have made an impact this season, and coach Nordyke said one player in particular has made her presence felt at the plate and in the field.

“Raegan Wakeland has been hitting the long-ball and has played good defense at third base,” said Nordyke.

Down the stretch, the Lady Huskies face familiar foes in Santa Fe, Putnam City North and Duncan. Putting everything together as a team is the top priority.

“I’m looking for them to keep improving on defense and hitting in clutch situations,” said Nordyke.

Something that can be said about this team is they share a solid bond and enjoy playing the game of softball. Each player understands their job and enjoys getting on the bus for road games or wearing the home colors and representing North on the field. Coach Nordyke said this team is enjoyable to coach for all of those reasons.

“They are a group that likes to have fun,” said Nordyke.
