As Edmond Memorial senior Carley Johnson makes her preparations to walk across the stage as a Bulldog one final time, she gets to take a moment to look back and enjoy her three years of cheer with Memorial High School.
“This season was the best season yet, it was so fun and special with it being my senior season. My favorite memory was competing at state this year for the last time with the best team,” said Johnson.
It’s all about the team for Johnson, who said she loves the personalities on the team.
“The teammate that always has everyone laughing is definitely Mercy Williams. She is always so lighthearted and has something funny to say. There’s no boring practice with her! The most serious is probably Avery Barlow because she is one of the captains and has played such a big role in making the routines and keeping everyone in line this season,” Johnson said. “I’ve been impressed with all my teammates this year but specifically my seniors. We’ve been through so many different changes including new coaches and new people, but they’ve continued to encourage and pour into me and each of the girls on the team.”
It’s a special group and one Johnson will leave with fond memories of for a lifetime.
“What I love most about my teammates is how encouraging each of them are. We pour into each other day in and day out whether it’s a simple practice, competitions, or a game. I also love how we each bring something unique to the squad. We each have different skill sets as well as different personalities and bringing all of that together is what makes us a team,” said Johnson.
As for the future, Johnson has that planned out and she’s ready for the next chapter. “I plan to go to the University of Arkansas and peruse nursing,” said Johnson.
