Q&A with Edmond Memorial’s Mason Largent – Presented by Andrew Ruiz – Shelter Insurance

VYPE: What life lessons have you learned playing soccer?

Mason Largent: The sport has helped me develop into a leader and taught me patience. Soccer has also taught me life skills I will never forget like discipline, keeping a good work ethic, and communicating with others.

VYPE: Why are you passionate about soccer?

ML: I have always felt a special love for the game. I have met a lot of great people and friends for life through the game. It’s been a part of my life since a young age, so I really enjoy being in the atmosphere every day.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

ML: My parents. They both worked very hard while having a smile on their face. They have done a lot to get me to where I am today, and I am very thankful for them.

VYPE: What teammate leaves the biggest impression on you and why?

ML: My teammate Adam Garnand. He has had two devastating ACL injuries in the past two years and continues to show up every day with a great attitude. We have played on varsity together since freshman year and I have learned a lot about finding something positive in everything in life from him.

VYPE: What is your favorite soccer memory?

ML: My sophomore year we beat our city rivals Edmond North 7-2. The atmosphere was amazing, and the game was incredible to play in.

VYPE: What is the best advice you’ve been given?

ML: Coach Smith said, “Be comfortable being uncomfortable.” This quote really stuck with me.

VYPE: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

ML: I enjoy lots of other outdoor activities like golf, running, hiking, fishing, traveling, and swimming.

VYPE: What are your plans for after high school?

ML: I plan on playing soccer in college and going on to become a pediatric dentist.

VYPE: Here is your chance to thank anyone you wish.

ML: I just want to thank my family, teammates, coach Hemphill, and all my other coaches for believing in me and helping me become the person and player I am today.
