Despite losing four seniors from last year’s area semifinal team, Jones head coach Jordy Harris couldn’t be more optimistic about this year’s team. There are three primary reasons for that. “We return two all-conference players, Riley Ellefson and Creighton Jones,” Harris said. “We will also return our starting point guard, Acyn Hansen. We expect to make a deep playoff run again with the mix of returning and new talent.” Jones (Sr.) was a first-team selection. “Creighton is a versatile 6-5 forward who does so much on the floor,” Harris said. “He defends 1-5, rebounds, moves the basketball, scores around the rim and does a great job getting to the free throw line. He is also our biggest vocal leader on the floor and in the locker room.” Ellefson (Sr.) was a second-team conference pick. Harris described Hansen (Jr.) as the team’s motor. “His defensive intensity in guarding the opposing team’s best player is unmatched. He ended his 3-point percentage last year at 32%. We are expecting Acyn to take a huge step forward this year on the floor,” Harris said. Vance Neff (Sr.) is the ultimate glue guy. Not only is his presence felt on Tuesday and Friday nights — he makes himself known on the floor every day in practice. “Vance is the first guy in the gym,” Harris said. “Vance will get extra shots up in the morning and after practice. He optimizes what it means to be a gym rat. He is one of our hardest workers during practice.” The 2024-25 Longhorns open the season at home against Crooked Oak on Dec. 10 and will play in the Latta Tournament the following week on Dec. 12-14. They will also participate in the What Capital Tournament at Chisholm High School (Jan. 9-11) and will host the Jones Kiwanis Tournament on Jan. 23-25. Jones’s regular season will conclude at home against Oklahoma Christian School on Valentine’s Day.
