2024 Midwest City Bombers Football Preview – Presented by Mike Muecke – State Farm

MIDWEST CITY BOMBERS

Coach: DARRELL HALL

6-5

OFFENSE

As the Bombers prepare for the 2024 season, head coach Darrell Hall and staff have a few questions to answer at a few key positions. The quarterback spot is one up for grabs this season and the early front runner is a young sophomore, Roman Manella (5-9, 150). Manella shows he has the technique and tools to be the guy. His youth and inexperience at the varsity level could be a concern, but those in the know believe he could be the answer for the Bombers this season. If Manella is the guy, he will have a good offensive line that features Humberto Ambrosio (6-0, 270, Sr.) at guard and Damonta Jones (6-1, 220, Sr.) at tackle. They will be the security blanket for Manella as the Bombers look to get the run game going with Jaylan Woody (5-10, 180, Sr.). Woody has the talent to be a durable running back who can help move the chains and set up the play-action passing game. Another running back to watch is Jahhim Mahmoud (6-1, 179, Sr.). Mahmoud will also see time on defense and is a hard runner who is tough to bring down with a single tackler. Lincoln King (5-10, 160, Jr.) is a big-play wide receiver who can stretch the field and force the opponent to adjust their secondary into a double coverage situation. Joining him at wide receiver will be Josiah Johnson (5-9, 170, Sr.), who ended last year with 278 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He will look to increase that contribution this season.

DEFENSE

Mahmoud will start at one of the safety spots with Johnson. Johnson has excellent instincts that translate to both sides of the ball. Johnson will see time at WR giving the QB another excellent target in the passing game. Woody has the talent to play in the secondary as well, giving the Bombers a talented and experienced defensive backfield. Ambrosio and Jones, along with Humberto Ambrosio (5-10, 280, Sr.), will play on the defensive line giving the Bombers three players who can disrupt and frustrate an offense. Keiwon Landrum (5-10, 190, Sr.) will start at middle linebacker and plays big at stuffing the run. Landrum understands the run and what RBs are thinking thanks to his time at RB and FB. The other linebacker spots are coming clearer as spring ball came to an end and entering August practice, the Bombers should have their LB corps ready to go. Hakeem Olawuyi (6-0, 220, Sr.) and Jerelle Chambray (5-8, 200, Sr.) have outstanding athletic ability that give them the opportunity to play at multiple positions, wherever the team needs them.
