2026 Choctaw Lady Yellowjackets – Slow-Pitch Softball Preview

Choctaw Lady Yellowjackets Slow-Pitch Softball

With a core of experienced seniors and rising underclassmen, Choctaw High School’s varsity slow-pitch softball team enters the new season focused on chemistry, leadership and another deep postseason run.

Head coach Lindsey Mudgett said the Lady Yellowjackets’ strength starts with how much they enjoy playing together. “We are excited to get back on the field and compete together,” Mudgett said. “This group of girls is a strong-close knit group that work hard together. We have a strong set of seniors that are leading the pack.”

One of those seniors is shortstop Payton Carrillo, a power hitter in the middle of the lineup and an emotional spark for the team. Carrillo is known for competing hard every inning and for a leadership style that lifts the level of play around her. Coaches and teammates say her presence at shortstop and at the plate helps set the tone for Choctaw’s aggressive style.

Senior outfielder Anna Malaske brings a multi-sport background and a reputation for character as well as production. Malaske, who also plays basketball, “bleeds blue and gold” and is recognized as a strong leader of her faith with high integrity, loyalty and servant leadership. She serves both school and community while maintaining straight-A grades and competing at a high level on the field.

In the circle, sophomore pitcher Ellie Malaske returns after earning a starting role as a freshman last season. Her growth in command, confidence and leadership since last year has impressed the coaching staff. “We are excited to see her compete this coming season,” Mudgett said.

Junior Devan Strecker is viewed as an emerging leader whose influence helps elevate teammates in practice and games. Four-year starter Kyndal Haithcock anchors left field and is expected to cap her Choctaw career with a standout senior season. Fellow four-year starter Dakota Frizzell, a pitcher and outfielder, adds another power bat and is eager for her final year in a Lady Yellowjackets uniform.

With veteran leaders at key positions and younger players stepping into larger roles, Choctaw’s roster blends experience, talent and cohesion. If the Lady Yellowjackets match their on-field performance with the work ethic and togetherness their coach sees every day, they expect to be in contention when the slow-pitch season reaches its most important games.
