Carl Albert’s Lebron Deon Royal
By Mike Moguin
Lebron Deon Royal, known as “Bron” to his teammates, is a two-sport star at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City.
Royal, a senior, recalls winning the Class 5A state championship four times in a row in football as his favorite sports accomplishment in high school. He is now part of the basketball team, which is 14-2 overall while sitting in first place with an unbeaten record in District 5A-2 play as of Feb. 1.
“My sports have taught me not to be selfish and to be a team player and a good leader,” Royal said. “The best advice I ever heard was ‘To keep my eyes focused on my path and nobody else’s path.”
Austin Johnson is his favorite teammate. “He has been a big part of my senior year, helping me get through hard times and just being a great teammate in every sport we play together,” Royal said. “My favorite part about being a leader of my school is showing people how to follow the rules and do the right thing,” he added.
When it comes to his favorite teacher, Royal looks at Ms. Young. “She was a supportive person, and you could talk to her about anything, and she would listen.”
Royal has a close bond with his grandfather. “My grandpa inspires me because he is a great man, and he shows me how I need to be a real man and raise my kids one day,” he said.
North Carolina is Royal’s favorite college basketball team. His favorite NBA team is the Oklahoma City Thunder. His favorite player of all-time is Michael Jordan, “because he played through anything and everything, and that’s what I want my mindset to be,” Royal said.
Outside of sports, Royal likes to ride horses and dirt bikes for fun
“I want to thank my aunt Lisa, my aunt Peaches, all my uncles, and all my family members in Altus who believe in me and make everything possible for me to compete at the level I do, and I would not be able to without them. I also want to thank my mom, dad, grandpa, and my sister.”
