Preston Albee has found a second home on the golf course.
The Choctaw High School senior started playing the game when his was six years old. That year he entered his first tournament as a first grader. Now he competes at the varsity level for the high school.
His hard work and countless hours of practice and rounds of golf have paid off. Next fall Albee will be attending the University of Oklahoma. And yes, he is playing golf for the Sooners.
“I am going to OU for golf, and my goal is to play in all four tournaments in the fall when I get there,” said Albee.
But before he leaves Choctaw for Norman, Albee is looking forward to spending some quality time with friends and family this summer.
“My summer plans consist of golfing a lot and getting a summer class knocked out so I can start using the practice facilities at OU,” Albee said. “When I’m not on the course, I love to do anything with family and friends. The lake is my favorite place to be when I’m not golfing.”
What he brings to the OU team is strong iron play and a solid knowledge of the game. But even with those tools, Albee is looking to improve in all areas to help OU compete against the top teams in the country.
“A strength for me is definitely my iron play. Something I have improved on a lot in the past couple of years is probably my putting and being more consistent with it,” said Albee.
His teammates at CHS are poised for another solid season. Albee said he’s been impressed with everyone this year.
“I love that they have a drive to get better and be the best version of themselves as well,” Albee said. “Sam White has impressed me the most this season. Last year he was not even close to cracking the varsity line up. This year, he has been a lock for every tournament and shot 76 to get his first ever top 5 finish at a tournament.”
A member of National Honor Society, Albee said the faculty at CHS have been great and their support has meant a lot to him. The same can be said for his family.
“My whole family has really inspired me to be the best version of myself, but my biggest inspiration has probably been my great grandpa. He passed away about two years ago, but I’ll never forget the last message he left for me. Before he passed, he told my papa that he knows I can go far in this sport, but to never let me forget to have fun while doing it. And that’ll always stick because there’s something greater than just golf in life,” said Albee.
