Choctaw High School senior cheerleader Delilah Elliott has spent most of her life on the sidelines and in the spotlight, helping lead the Lady Wildcats with energy, poise and a steady presence in the back spot position. A member of the Choctaw cheer program since second grade, she now embraces her role as a veteran on the squad and the responsibility that comes with younger athletes watching her every move.
“I’m a back spot. I’ve been in the Choctaw cheer program since second grade, and since I’m a senior this year, I really enjoy getting to be a leader and a positive role model for the younger girls on the team. I love being able to set a good example!” Elliott said.
That leadership shows up daily at practice, where she leans into the tight-knit culture and chemistry that have defined her experience.
“What I love most about my team and teammates is that no matter what kind of day I’m having, I can come to practice, rain or shine, and they always know how to lift my spirits. We all support and encourage each other, and it really feels like a sisterhood,” she said.
Her support system extends beyond cheer, as Elliott points to the people around her as a constant source of motivation.
“My best friends inspire me the most. They’ve helped shape me into the person I am today, and I’ve been blessed to have so many amazing people in my life. Honestly, everyone in my circle inspires me in different ways, and I’m really grateful to have people who always support and encourage me to be my best,” Elliott said.
She also credits former teammate Braylon Edward with sharpening her skills. “Braylon Edward made a huge impression on me and taught me everything I know about back spotting. Shoutout to Bray, who’s now cheering at the University of Arkansas! I’m really thankful for everything he taught me.”
Elliott said stunting is her biggest strength, and she is focused on staying consistent in the gym so she can keep getting stronger. She carries that growth mindset into each day with an emphasis on attitude. “Last year, I learned to always come in with a positive attitude and a smile on my face. Emotions are contagious, and I want to be someone who lifts my teammates up instead of bringing them down.”
Summer workouts, she added, have only fueled the group’s belief. “Summer workouts are going great! Everyone has been working so hard and pushing each other to get better every day. From what I’ve seen, I think there’s a BIG state championship ring in our future.”[1]
Off the mat, Elliott already has a clear plan for what comes next. “After I graduate, I plan to go to nursing school out of state to be a RN and pursue a career in aesthetics and eventually own my own med spa.”
From second grade cheerleader to senior leader, Elliott’s journey at Choctaw has been defined by hard work, gratitude and a commitment to lifting others up—traits she will carry with her long after her final routine.
