Defining Athlete with Del City’s Quincy Hill – Presented by Bobby Lewis – State Farm Insurance

If you attend a Del City High School football game this season, you may be confused by the 5-foot-10, 170-pound junior that seems to be taking snaps everywhere on the field.

“I play athlete,” Quincy Hill said. “WR, QB, RB, SS, CB, any position my coach needs me to play.”

The plan this year is for Hill to start at quarterback for a few weeks while the starter awaits his return, then return to playing wide receiver and safety, though he could take snaps at running back, too.

“Around middle school, I made the first switch from running back to quarterback, and I figured out the throwing mechanics fast and led my team to an undefeated season,” Hill said. “It helped me not just understand all positions, it even helped me read defenses so when I’m lined up at receiver, I know where and how deep to adjust my route. Even when I play defense, I know what the quarterback is looking for, so it helps me bait him and read him.”

But even for such a natural athlete, Hill has faced his setbacks in sports. At one point, he felt like he should have been playing a more significant role as an underclassman. He went to work, found his spot and stepped up as a leader. He also looked to his mentors to help him maximize his obvious talent.

“Coach [Robert] Jones is a great coach who prepares players for the next level by testing mentality and attitude, and he pushes me and that has impacted me,” Hill said. “Coach Foreman also is the same. He also teaches me next-level points that will help me succeed on the next level.”

Hill aspires not only to play in college but to play at the Division I level and, hopefully, reach the NFL thereafter. He’ll start at quarterback against Edmond Memorial on Week 0.

“I hope to leave a standard as a leader for my team and show underclassmen how to lead and get the team to the point where we can compete for a state title,” Hill said.
