In order for a team to be successful, they have to work well together and have good team chemistry. Each player has to be accountable for their preparation and be ready to contribute when called on. Kitelyn Higgins says that being ready to help her team is something that motivates her.
“I don’t want to let my team down,” she said. “That means I need to perform to the best of my ability. If I miss a ball or strikeout, I just tell myself ‘it’s okay, fix it, do what you’re capable of’. Which could mean getting the next one or maybe simply just keeping a positive attitude.
Higgins is a junior at Jones High School, where she is a member of the softball, basketball, and track teams. Outside of sports, she also serves as Vice-President of the junior class, and is a member of the National Honor Society and Leadership.
Throughout her career, Kitelyn has made a lot of memories with her teammates on and off the field and court. While she has enjoyed all of them, she has one type that is at the top of the list.
“My favorite thing to do in softball is to throw girls out at home,” she stated. “When I catch a ball in the outfield and I see the runner rounding third and going home, I get excited because I know I can get them out with a good throw.”
Higgins has had people in her life that have helped her become who she is. And she has a few people that have made a bigger impact.
“I would say my parents, Ty and Kristina Higgins, are my role models,” she said. “They work hard, provide for me, and are my biggest supporters. One of my teachers, Mrs. Pam Dooling has had the biggest impact on me. Her classes have taught me not only skills for school, but also for life. I have learned how to work for what you want, prioritize, and that in order to succeed, sometimes you have to fail.”
