Jones enters the 2026 season as the defending state champion after a 14-0 run and returns a loaded core for first-year head coach Jeremy Reed at the school. Reed notes that the team brings back nine defensive starters and five on offense from the 2025 state title group, which naturally fuels “very high expectations for the 2026 season.” The staff believes a combination of proven veterans, “upcoming players, and new additions” gives this group the depth and versatility to make another deep postseason push. With that much experience on the field and continuity on the staff, the emphasis will be on maintaining the standard rather than rebuilding as Jones moves into another challenging schedule.
Offensively, Jones returns five starters and will again operate out of a high-tempo spread system that attacks the entire field. “Spread. High tempo offense that likes to spread the ball sideline to sideline and vertically,” is how the staff describes the philosophy, and the personnel fits that vision. Sophomore quarterback Jeymon Reed (6-4, 194) steps in as the new triggerman after an award-winning freshman year that included 2025 OSN Freshman of the Year honors, a fifth-place finish in the Class 3A long jump and a recruiting profile that already features six Division I offers. He is surrounded by senior running back JonQuay Johnson (5-8, 165) and a deep receiver group that includes junior Garritt Davis (6-3, 195), senior Hunter Purvis (6-0, 164) and sophomore Ace Guthery (6-2, 166), giving the offense multiple options on the perimeter. Sophomore lineman Ty Duren (6-0, 286) anchors the line as Jones looks to again play fast, stay balanced and force defenses to cover every blade of grass.
Defensively, nine starters return in a multiple scheme that blends pressure looks and base concepts while emphasizing effort and physicality. “Multiple. Will be a great mix of pressure and base defense. Will take great pride in pursuit and defensive physicality,” the staff says, outlining an identity built on hustle and contact. Senior linebacker Jesse Hernandez (6-0, 210) is the headliner and the program’s VYPE Top 100 nominee, a 2025 198-pound state champion powerlifter and explosive athlete who ran 11.18 in the 100 and “will have a huge season” as his recruiting momentum grows. He’s joined in the front by senior defensive lineman Michael Renfrow (6-0, 330), while the secondary is loaded with experience in juniors Derek and Kade Templeton (both 6-2, 165) and seniors Drew Thomas (6-0, 186) and Jet Biby (5-11, 173). With Reed and Hernandez leading a defense that returns nearly intact, and an offense headlined by a rising-star quarterback, Jones fully expects to be back in the conversation for another championship run.
