Luther’s Paeton Heron
Luther junior Paeton Heron first got interested in basketball because she thought it would be a fun sport to play. What started as something she enjoyed quickly turned into a big part of her life. Over the years, basketball has become a place where she can lead, compete, and grow.
Paeton plays both guard and power forward, a combination that allows her to impact the game in multiple ways. She enjoys these roles because she is able to lead her team. Whether she’s handling the ball on the perimeter or working inside, she values being someone her teammates can rely on. Her strongest skill on the court is reading the floor and passing. She takes pride in finding open teammates and setting them up for baskets instead of focusing only on scoring.
Like other athletes, Paeton is always looking for ways to improve. Right now, she’s working hard on improving her ball-handling skills so she can be more confident and effective during games. Before each game, she prepares mentally by getting shots up and cheering on the boy’s basketball team, which helps her stay locked in and ready.
One of Paeton’s most memorable games was beating Little Axe for the second time. That win stood out because they proved a lot of people wrong, and it showed how much the team had grown. Off the court, Paeton makes an impact by being the loudest supporter and keeping team energy high. To her, being a good teammate means proving our school wrong and evolving from yesterday.
In the classroom, Paeton’s favorite subject is math because it’s the class she understands the most. Science is more challenging for her, as it doesn’t come as naturally. While basketball is a priority, she hasn’t struggled balancing schoolwork and athletics. Her biggest supporter is her mom, who is always there for her academically and athletically.
This season, Paeton’s goals are to triple last year’s win total and raise her points-per-game average. Looking ahead, she hopes to play a college sport and pursue a career in either education or politics.
