How you show up one day can rub off on others. That’s one thing Midwest City senior Sevyn Miller has learned through playing basketball.
“One apple can ruin the bunch, meaning just because I am having a bad day, I can’t take that out on other people,” Miller said.
Miller has been starting for the Bombers since her sophomore season, and that is an accomplishment she said she is proud of. Having a great work ethic is important and can earn you the respect of your teammates. There is one who has done that in Miller’s eyes.
“I would always say Sari Rolls,” she said. “Because no matter how many times she gets pushed down, she still manages to get back up, she never quits, even if she wants to.”
Miller said the best advice she had ever heard is, “Why Wait To Be Great.” Indeed. That’s an excellent piece of advice.
Off the court, Miller is involved with the National Honor Society and FCCLA (Family, Career, Community Leaders of America). When it comes to hobbies, “I like to fish and paint,” she said.
Miller does not have a favorite college basketball team but is a fan of the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces and the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder. Her favorite player is Russell Westbrook, “because he’s a dawg,” she said.
The Midwest City senior is grateful for the people who have had a profound influence on her life.
“Mr. Maggart, because he’s so sarcastic and I am too, so he just makes me laugh,” said Miller. “My grandmother is an inspiration because she’s been through so much, but is still pushing and keeping on.”
Her favorite part about representing the black and gold of the Bombers once she and her team take the court is, “You give people a glimpse of how great we really are,” Miller said.
“I would like to thank my mom, grandparents, family, my coaches, definitely my teammates, and my friend Kylee. I would also like to thank everyone else who has helped along the way. Those who have donated to my high school and AAU team, as well as those who have sent me motivational letters since my freshman year. I thank you all deeply.”
