Midwest City ’s Sevyn Miller – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Candace Cunningham – Shelter Insurance

Known for being one of the hardest workers in the gym, Midwest City High School’s Sevyn Miller is in her junior year playing stretch guard for head coach Megan Maloy-Knight.

Miller started playing the game before she entered kindergarten. The game has taught her many things over the years.

“I’ve had many life lessons through basketball,” Miller said. “Something I enjoy are the places you get to travel to.”

Miller is listed as a guard, but she is a versatile player who can play nearly any position.

“Miller is a player who does all the little things. She works hard everyday giving us energy. Sevyn started for us last year because she is the hardest worker in every gym. If there is a loose ball, she will be diving for it. She always boxes out and crashes relentlessly,” said coach Maloy-Knight.

The junior believes in herself and her ability to help the team.

“I can play anywhere, and I’ve improved most on my dribbling and shooting abilities,” said Miller.

But Miller loves to talk about her teammates and how much they mean to her.

“The teammate that left an impression on me is Sarai Ralls because she has a strong will to be get better every day and she never gives up,” Miller said. “Kloey Knox and Drea Walter always keep the team laughing, Johnae Seay and myself are the most serious on the team. I love how there’s so much love and togetherness within my team.”

As for her future, Miller said she is looking forward to achieving her goals in life while working towards her dream job.

“My goal is to make it to the Naval Academy and hopefully play basketball there as well, then become a physical therapist,” Miller said. “My drive to become the person that I told my Uncle I would be before he passed.”
