Q&A with Choctaw’s Malerie Hawk – Volleyball Spotlight – Presented by Landers of Norman

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life? 

Malerie Hawk: My sport has taught me how to use leadership with those at our school and throughout my other sports. 

VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?

MH: I am very passionate about my sport because I want to inspire younger kids to play. 

VYPE: Who inspires you and why? 

MH: My mom inspires me because of how much work she puts in for our family and my dad because he is another person who inspires me every day. 

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why? 

MH: Aliyah Duval. She has been the most uplifting teammate I have.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you? 

MH: I would go to Pensacola, Florida. It is my favorite place to go! It’s so much fun! I would take my family because they are my best friends. 

VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing your sport? 

MH: I started playing volleyball in seventh grade because it was something all my friends were doing. But now it is my favorite thing to do. 

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete? 

MH: My favorite part about representing my school as an athlete is the opportunity to showcase my skills while at the same time encouraging others to achieve their athletic goals. 

VYPE: What is your all-time favorite meal? 

MH: My favorite all-time meal is my grandma’s chicken spaghetti. 

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you? 

MH: The best advice anyone has given me is to not be different, be better.
