Q&A with Christian Heritage’s Sam Sherrer – Presented by Danielle Hill – Shelter Insurance

By Elizabeth Contreras

VYPE: What first drew you to basketball, and how long have you been playing?
Sam Sherrer: My parents put me in basketball really early, and I enjoyed it so much that it stuck.

VYPE: How would you describe your playing style or your role on the team?
SS: I would say my playing style is however the game comes to me. I’m more of a corner and three-point shooter, as well as a defender.

VYPE: What’s one skill you’ve worked hardest to improve, and how did you do it?
SS: I’ve recently put the most work into my defense. I felt it wasn’t good enough and needed to focus on a defense-first mentality.

VYPE: What’s your favorite memory on the court so far?
SS: My favorite memory is my freshman year versus Luther. One of our seniors fouled out very late in the game, and I went in and got a steal that helped us go on to win.

VYPE: What’s something people might not realize about the amount of work that goes into being an athlete?
SS: You can never be perfect, but the saying “practice makes perfect” isn’t far off. If you don’t put in the work, you’ll never get better.

VYPE: What part of your team’s chemistry or culture makes it special?
SS: I love the chemistry we have. We all enjoy each other and have fun just hooping. Our culture is great, and we hope it reflects God.

VYPE: Is there a particular game or opponent you always look forward to playing?
SS: I always look forward to playing Southwest Covenant. There are a lot of ties between our schools, so it’s always a fun battle.

VYPE: What does being a leader or a good teammate mean to you?
SS: It means being vocal and a voice in the locker room. You have to be a mentor to your teammates and lead by example.

VYPE: What goals have you set for yourself this season?
SS: I want to be a leader on the team and be the best teammate and player I can be. I want to be reliable.
