SOUTHMOORE SABERCATS
Coach: BRETT JONES
4-7
OFFENSE
The Sabercats are entering the Brett Jones era with enthusiasm and a positive mental approach to the season. Coach Jones said he is eager to get his team on the field and see what they can accomplish as a group. “I’m excited to take over a program that made the playoffs last year. They are riding a lot of momentum, and we look to expound on that. We have a good amount of returning starters back. We could be the surprise team of 6A-II,” said coach Jones. Quarterback Taven Hays (Jr.) is back bringing his athleticism and excellent decision making to the field. Hays will have some help in the run game from Tylenn Diggs (Jr.) as the Sabercats look to run multi-set, spread offense with an emphasis on downhill, physical run game. Efficient passing will be key this season which is why have Elijay Beamus (Jr.) back at WR is important. Beamus has excellent hands and is explosive off the line. Seven returning starters dot the lineup on offense.
DEFENSE
The defense has a chance to be a special unit for Southmoore this season. Na’Kwaine Carter (Sr.) has multiple D1 offers and is known for being relentless in his pursuit of the ball. Carter’s play will test the best offensive linemen he will face this season. Sean McCray (Jr.) is a quick defensive end who plays with passion and like Carter, is relentless in his pursuit of the ball carrier. Linebacker Andrew Eagle (Sr.) is poised for a big season this year. Eagle has the potential to be one of the top linebackers in the class. Look for Southmoore to run a 4-3 and mix things up to keep opposing QBs guessing. “We are flexible and adaptable. We are an attacking gap-controlled team that runs well to the ball,” said coach Jones. The coaching staff consists of Bryan Freeman, Trey Steward, Greg Hays, Leon Johnson, Ryan Paul, Greg Lane, Christian Littlehead, Joseph Mitchell, James Seeney, Daltyn Zimmerman Evan Boren, William Diggs, Chris Holden, and Gabe Tarpley.
