Head coach Cody Merrell is expecting his team to play hard and continue to develop as the season gets underway. With a full roster of talented returning starters and a new crop of young players eager to prove themselves, the 2025 season could be a good one for the Tigers.
“Half of our lineup is returning, and we have a group of young guys eager to get their opportunity. It will be very important for our team to play as hard as they can every game. Early in the year we will be gaining experience and confidence on the mound, so our experience on defense and offense will need to show up every day,” said coach Merrell.
Preston Baublit (Jr.) makes his return to the lineup bringing his athleticism and stick to the roster. Baublit has all the tools at the plate and has spent this offseason working to improve his game. The junior will be one of the leaders on the team and his play will help set the tone for the team.
Other players to watch include Tyler Keeling (6-5, RHP), and Cooper Cunningham (So.). Keeling will be depended on this season to deliver from the bump. His work ethic and ability to overcome challenges sets him apart from his peers. Cunningham is a young player who stepped in last year as a freshman and played catcher for the second half of the season. Cunningham has improved his power at the plate and is expected to have a big season.
The roster is dotted with players capable of making a big impact for the Tigers this season. As the season gets underway, continue to check the www.normanathletics.org website for stories and updates on Tiger baseball.
