Trinity Downing: Pushing Limits and Pursuing Excellence

For Trinity Downing, success in athletics isn’t just about talent—it’s about discipline. “During a meet, my major motivation is always to beat my own PR, but when it comes to practice, having discipline is always more important than motivation,” she said. Competing in long jump, 300m hurdles, the 200m sprint, and pole vault for Community Christian School, Downing has learned that pushing through mental barriers is just as important as physical training.

Her drive to excel is something she credits to her biggest role models—her parents. “Both my parents are my biggest role models as they have taught me to pursue excellence in everything. Without them, I would not be who I am, and I am so grateful to have them as my parents,” Downing shared. Their influence has shaped her approach to both sports and academics, instilling a mindset of perseverance and hard work.

The road to success has required a relentless work ethic. “Definitely focusing during practice and learning how to push myself physically when I mentally hit a wall,” she explained. “I also train during the offseason and work out individually during breaks.” That dedication has paid off, as she continues to see progress in her events.

One of the biggest highlights of her career came last year when she qualified for state in all three of her track events—an achievement made even more impressive considering two of those events were new to her that season. “This year my volleyball team got second place at state. In track last year I qualified for state in all three of my events, two of which I was new at that year,” she said.

As Downing looks ahead, she plans to continue competing at the next level. “I plan to go to college, continue running track, and major in biology as a pre-med student,” she said. But no matter where her journey takes her, she remains grounded in her faith. “While my school, parents, and coaches have all been a major support, none of it would be possible without God as He is the one who gives me the abilities. I am thankful for every opportunity He gives me, and ultimately, track is just a way by which I am able to glorify Him.”
