Dive in with Norman North’s Maggie Koch – Presented by Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Norman

VYPE: Maggie, what grade are you in and how long have you competed in swim?

Maggie Koch: I am a junior. I started swimming nine years ago with Sooner Swim Club.

VYPE: What has competing in the sport taught you that you can use in life?
MK: Swimming is a very mental sport. We all do the same workouts so the mental side of it is key.

VYPE: What is the strength of your skill set and what have you improved on this season?
MK: My strength in swimming has really always been freestyle especially sprints but this season I have spent some time working on my butterfly to try and drop some time there.

VYPE: Where is your favorite place to compete?
MK: My favorite place to compete is Jenks High school because I have a lot of state memories there! Some of my family also lives in the Tulsa area so it’s always fun when they can come and watch me swim.

VYPE: Have you been impressed with a teammate this season or was there a former teammate who left an impression on you?
MK: Someone who has really made an impact on my swimming has been all the girls I’ve practiced with throughout club. We’ve all grown up together.

VYPE: Which teammate keeps everyone laughing and who is the most serious?
MK: In terms of who keeps everyone laughing, I’d have to say Kaida Bradley. She swims for Norman High School. Someone who is always locked in is Gabby Beck who swims for Norman High as well.

VYPE: How do you mentally prepare yourself for competition?
MK: I try to listen to worship music before all of my meets and I always say a prayer before I start a race.

VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?
MK: I love how unique everybody is on the team because you get to see so many personalities every day.

VYPE: What is your goal for life after high school?
MK: the goal for my life after high school would be to just do something I love! I really enjoy playing music and producing media, especially videos. It’s so creative and fun.

VYPE: Do you belong to any clubs or groups at school?
MK: I am involved in Norman North DEN. I am a class officer, and I am in Christian’s on Campus.
