Cross country is a grueling sport. Unlike track where you know the surface will be nice and smooth, cross country is exactly how it sounds. Its competitors are in four-wheel drive mode in many instances.
The Westmoore girls cross country team, under the leadership of head coach Charlie Reichert, are looking to make a statement this season.
“The Westmoore girls cross country team is gearing up for an exciting season, showcasing a young and dynamic roster that has dedicated themselves to rigorous training throughout the summer. With a spirit of determination and enthusiasm, this team is ready to make their mark on the competition,” said coach Reichert.
Leading the way is senior Eva Tice. Tice had a top 25 finish at the state meet last season and coach Reichert feels she is in a great place to do even better in 2024.
“Leading the charge is senior runner Eva Tice, whose experience and leadership will be instrumental in guiding the pack. Tice’s commitment to excellence and her ability to motivate her teammates will help foster a strong bond within the team as they navigate the challenges ahead,” said Reichert.
Tice holds the school record with a time of 18:48 and has continued to work hard this summer to make improvements and stay on top of her game.
Sophomore Bryanna Madden is an underclassman the Lady Jags are excited to see compete this season. Her development as a runner has the Westmoore faithful hopeful she can add her name to the group of competitors going to state. Coach Reichert said Madden is ready to make some waves this season.
“Bryanna’s enthusiasm and leadership skills are not just elevating her own performance but also fostering a strong team dynamic, making her a key player to keep an eye on as the season progresses,” said coach Reichert.
Overall, this could be a great season for Westmoore, and coach Reichert is confident in the program and what they are building at WHS.
“As they prepare to hit the trails, the Westmoore girls cross country team embodies the essence of hard work and perseverance, and they are eager to show what they can achieve together this season,” said Reichert.
