Hana Scheurch, Down but not Out – Presented by Eskridge Honda

Senior years are bittersweet for many student-athletes including Hana Scheurch of Southmoore High School. A varsity soccer player, Scheurch said she is looking forward to her final year of prep soccer despite being on the sidelines.

“I am looking forward to spending time with my team for one last year, and also watching them play,” Scheurch said. “Unfortunately, I am injured this year and won’t be able to play, but I would usually be defensive mid. I think that this year, I have really improved on my leadership. As I haven’t been able to play, I was able to grow closer to the Lord, which I think has really helped me.”

The senior said several teammates have impressed her and she is looking forward to seeing how well they perform this year.

“I have been really impressed with my teammate Giselle Cordero! She has improved so much overall, and I am just so proud of what I’ve seen from her so far this year,” said Scheurch.

Scheurch said everyone on the team loves to compete and have fun doing it.

“The teammate who keeps everyone laughing is Abby Prufert! I wouldn’t say that we have anyone who is super serious on our team, but if I had to choose the most serious, it would probably be Giselle,” said Scheurch.

Leaving a legacy for other students to follow is something Scheurch is hoping to do.

“The legacy I want to leave at SHS soccer is one of encouragement! When you face setbacks, know that you are still a valued member of the team. Keep working to get back and don’t be discouraged,” said Scheurch.

Scheurch said there have been many people over the years who have helped her ger to where she is today.

“Some people who have really helped me to get to where I’m at, when I’m able to play, and when I’m not, is my dad, who coached me for years, my mentors at church, who helped me grow closer to God, my high school coach, who has encouraged me in so many ways and who has helped me so much, and my PT’s, who have helped me since the start of my 11th grade year,” said Scheurch.
