Junior High Coach Spotlight – Shawn Dismuke – Presented by Eskridge Honda

Central Junior High School’s Shawn Dismuke is a U.S. History teacher and the boys 7th and 8th grade basketball coach. During his career, Dismuke has coaches everything from 5th grade to seniors, starting his career as a lay coach at Moore West Junior High in 2005.

A graduate of Savanna High School, Dismuke said several people have made an impact on his coaching style and philosophy.

“I would have to say Kevin Nichols in Bethel and Nick Warehime at Del City. These two men although different styles allowed me to become more diverse in my abilities to which I was able to create my own style of coaching. I give a tremendous amount of credit to these men for their patience and guidance,” said Dismuke.

For coach Dismuke, making a positive impact on the lives of his students and players is a top priority.

“I enjoy seeing students and athletes becoming better athletes of course but most of all knowing that I can in a small way have a positive impact on young lives giving them confidence to succeed in whatever they apply themselves in,” Dismuke said. “When students and athletes leave, I only hope that I have prepared them for the next level whether in sports or the classroom and that they can move forward with confidence in all their goals.”

When the opportunity presents itself, coach Dismuke enjoys spending time with family and friends.

“My free time I like being with family and friends, riding motorcycles and listening to music with my wife, watching my youngest wrestling in college, as well as watching Green Bay Packers and OSU football.”
