Moore High School junior Payton Wilson started her journey in FFA when she was a freshman thanks to the encouragement of a family member.
“My sister was showing pigs in FFA, and I enjoyed going to watch her, so I decided to join too,” Wilson said. “I am involved in showing livestock, I show swine, I am also a part of our Cleveland County 4H chapter. I show one pig this year she is a Berkshire gilt and last year I showed a dark cross barrow.”
For Wilson, being part of FFA has been a great learning experience.
“What I enjoy the most about being in FFA is getting to learn more about how I can improve the environment and getting to be with my friends while I do it,” said Wilson.
Wilson is involved in several activities at school including National Honor Society, Moore Maniacs, Lady Lions softball, and Moore Norman Technology Center’s pre-engineering program. Wilson plays first, third and catcher for the softball team.
“What I love most about my teammates in softball is how supportive everyone can be and how they can always pick me up when I’m down,” said Wilson.
The junior said anyone interested in FFA should follow her advice.
“The advice that I would give is don’t be afraid to be open to trying new things, even if you don’t have a friend to try it with you because you’ll make a new friend everywhere you go,” said Wilson. When her time at Moore High School comes to an end, Wilson plans to enter college and pursue a degree in engineering.
“My current goal is to play softball at Wichita State and be a student in their engineering program.”
