Norman’s Ady Hybl
By Elizabeth Contreras
Norman High School’s senior point guard Ady Hybl has played basketball since preschool, sinking her first basket on a mini goal in her backyard at three years old. Since then, Hybl has felt at home with a ball in her hands, and what began as afternoons shooting with her dad evolved into a lifelong passion defined by discipline and a work ethic that sets her apart as one of Oklahoma’s top underclassman-turned-senior leaders.
Today she stands not only as the floor general for the Tigers but as one of the program’s most driven competitors, carrying an ambition as big as the belief she has in herself.
“I believe I’m a true leader on my team,” she said. “As the point guard, I make sure our effort, energy, and focus are locked in every day. I love to shoot the ball, and my goal this season is to have the highest three-point percentage in the state of Oklahoma.”
For Hybl, leadership is rooted in serving the people beside her. Even as she strives for excellence, her focus remains on elevating others and ensuring the team succeeds together.
“As a point guard, I’m in charge of getting my girls the ball. I try to get double-digit assists each game, and my hope is to make both myself and my teammates better every single day.”
Leadership, she said, is something she takes both seriously and personally.
“Being a good leader means showing up when no one is watching,” Hybl said. “Leaders accept criticism, adapt, and give constructive criticism in return. Leaders have a chip on their shoulder, and they lead for more than themselves.”
That belief in accountability and resilience is rooted in the example set by her parents. Her mom and dad, she explained, have shaped her the most, instilling a relentless drive and deep-rooted dedication.
“They are the hardest-working people I know,” she said. “My dad is a coach and raised me to be the hardest worker in any room I walk into. My mom is my rock—whether I had the best game or the worst, she’s always pushing me and believing in me. I wouldn’t be who I am without them.”
Hybl hopes to follow in her father’s footsteps and pursue coaching while double majoring in sports management and journalism.
As she enters her senior season, Hybl is determined to make it unforgettable, leading a young Norman High squad with the same grit and vision that have defined her journey. Ranked first in her class and serving as the heartbeat of NHS basketball, Hybl continues to represent Norman as a Tiger who leads with purpose.
