Norman’s Easton Hightower finished his first season of varsity swim for the Tigers and is ready to continue working toward improving his numbers for next season. Hightower said the fan support was tremendous.
“I had a pretty good first season of high school swim. The biggest surprise was all the fans in the stands for the state meet. I’ve been swimming a long time and I’ve never seen the stands that full,” Hightower said.
A swimmer since elementary school, Hightower said he’s learned a lot over the years and is looking forward to next year.
“I’m a freshman and I’ve been swimming since I was six and playing baseball since I was four and I’ve learned a lot about perseverance and not giving just because you have one off day,” said Hightower. “Improving my nutrition has been my biggest improvement this season. I’ve been more focused on taking care of myself and making gains out of the pool and it has paid off in the pool by helping me get a time for the Speedo Sectionals meet.”
Despite the team being on the smaller side for a 6A school, Hightower said he’s made some good friends while competing for NHS.
“It’s a small but mighty group to be around. What we lack in numbers we make up for in fun and personality,” said Hightower. “My training partner from Newcastle, Connor Leader keeps me laughing and my pal JP is definitely vocal.”
When he’s not in the pool, you can usually find Hightower playing baseball or gaming.
