Norman’s Gabby Beck
Norman High School junior Gabby Beck is excited for another great season in the pool. Swimming the breaststroke and butterfly, Beck said she loves making great memories with her teammates.
“My best strokes are breaststroke and butterfly. At meets, I usually swim the 100-yard breaststroke and butterfly. I started competing in swimming when I was in 3rd grade,” Beck said. “My favorite memory as a Norman swimmer was the State meet my freshman year. It was my first time being in such an electric environment at a swim meet and I made the podium in all of my individual races which I was very proud of because I went into the meet with no expectations, just that I knew I would do my best.”
Consistency is something every athlete strives toward, and Beck is consistent in the pool.
“A strength of mine is that I am a very consistent athlete. I’ve experienced success that has been the result of consistency in and out of the pool in terms of practicing and taking care of my body. Something I have improved on this season is my mindset. I’ve learned to not be too focused on my times at meets and to be more focused on my effort, letting loose and enjoying my races,” said Beck.
For this junior, being around her teammates and representing the Tigers in competition is something Beck loves to do.
“What I love most about my teammates is the different personalities of everyone. Some of us have been swimming for up to 10 years while others have only been swimming for a few. Nonetheless, we all come together at meets and push each other to be better swimmers and have fun doing so,” Beck said. “I have been impressed by Kaida Bradley. Kaida has a very strong work ethic and pushes herself very hard in the pool to become a better swimmer. A teammate who’s always one to lighten the mood and who is nice to everyone is Milan Clinton. He has a fun personality and is a great teammate. The most serious I’d say is Max Short. He is a very hard worker and a dedicated swimmer.”
After high school Beck plans to attend college and possibly major in Political Science.
