VYPE Magazine editor Brad Heath caught up with Highland East coach Jamil Dollarson to discuss coaching and Moore athletics.

VYPE: Coach, when did you get your start in coaching?

Jamil Dollarson: I started my coaching career in 2018 at Guymon High School.

VYPE: What high school did you graduate from?

JD: I attended Frederick High School in Frederick, Oklahoma. Go Bombers!

VYPE: Who has influenced your coaching style or is a coaching mentor to you?

JD: My high school coach, Matt Humble, has been a major influence on me. He played a significant role in my life, and I hope to carry on his legacy.

VYPE: Which Moore Public School does Highland East feed into?

JD: Our program feeds into Moore High School.

VYPE: What are you teaching?

JD: I currently teach Junior High PE.

VYPE: What do you love most about the profession?

JD: My favorite part of coaching is watching the kids succeed. No matter how big or small the goal, their achievements deserve to be celebrated!

VYPE: What do you want student-athletes to take away from a Coach Dollarson team?

JD: I hope that when kids move on to the next level, they leave with a deeper passion for the game than when they started.

VYPE: Away from the field and gym, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

JD: I enjoy spending time with my wife, binge watching anime, and gaming.
