Entering her sophomore year at Norman North High School, Laurel Cathey knew she was not only going to run for the varsity cross country, but she wanted to get involved in other activities as well. The sophomore has found several clubs she enjoys around campus.
“I am in Christians on Campus, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Key Club, and SPUD,” said Cathey.
As a member of the cross country team, Cathey said she loves the environment of being on the team and the bound she shares with them.
“I love the positive environment of my team, everyone is always very supportive and kind,” Cathey said. “My biggest surprise this season has been the relationships with teammates I’ve formed. Some of my best friends I’ve met running cross country.”
Cathey started her cross country journey when she was in the sixth grade and her older sister has been a source of inspiration in her life.
“My older sister Megan has always been an inspiration for me because of her level headedness and determination,” said Cathey.
In the classroom, Cathey said she enjoys AP World History, and her favorite teacher was her 9th grade math teacher, Ms. Bowles.
When she’s not running on her favorite course, which are trails in the woods, you can usually find her reading and spending time with her friends. Cathey has big plans for life after high school.
“After I graduate, I would love to run in college and eventually pursue professional running.”
