Q&A with Moore’s Swayze Steely
VYPE: What grade are you in and what is your position on the cheer team?
Swayze Steely: I’m a senior. I’m a flyer and a captain.
VYPE: What do you love most about your team and teammates at Moore?
SS: The legacy that we have created, plus the lifelong friendships.
VYPE: Who inspires you?
SS: Lindsey Driskill. When I was seven or eight years old, I had a cheer coach that started talking to my team about this cheerleader she called Drisk. She told us to look her up on IG. So of course, I run home and ask my mom to look her up and to follow her. I was in awe. She used to post a video everyday of herself do a standing full. At eight I had just gotten my running full. So, I watched her videos like I was starved! She is also an amazing flyer. Watching her was one of the reasons I started doing co-ed stunt privates. When I was nine, I met Drisk for the first time while also competing at my very first NCA All-Star Nationals. Fast forward to when I was 14 and my freshman year. Drisk was my coach at Moore High School! I felt so honored to be coached by one of my cheer idols.
VYPE: What other clubs or groups do you belong to at school?
SS: I’m in Moore Leadership, Student Council, Moore Love, and National Honors Society. I also have an internship at Mercy Hospital and work at Twist and Shout!
VYPE: Which teammate is the most vocal and which teammate keeps everyone laughing? SS: Kaylin is probably the most vocal and Lilly is funny!
VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?
SS: I would be honored to cheer at OU or OSU while studying for nursing and eventually becoming an aesthetician, compete on Team USA, and I would also love to continue to grow as a coach.
VYPE: What are your expectations for the season?
SS: To hit a solid zero at OSSAA Regionals, plus OSSAA State and win our 5th consecutive NCA HS Nationals title in the varsity Small Advanced Crowd Leading division in January 2026! I hope to also defend our Oklahoma Stunt State title for the 2026 season!
VYPE: Favorite subject in school and favorite teacher from any grade?
SS: Leadership. Mrs. Nubia Holland.
